Before joining CPS, she worked for 14 years as a librarian and instructional technology coach. She is proud to have worked with every grade PreK-12! Kara is a certified Educational Technology Leader through COSN, a Google Certified Trainer, and is a Director at Large on the board of the Illinois Library Association.Equity as it applies to digital spaces and the usage of instructional technology is a critical area of focus as more learning and learner engagement moves online. This session will explore ways that organizations can support equity for all students by focusing on multiple literacies.

Las VegasBeth is the Director of Innovative Teaching and Learning at the Maine Department of Education where she leads a wide range of innovative, covid-response initiatives that provide important and necessary support to students and educators. In this role, Beth also leads the Learning Through Technology Team, which supports the effective integration of technology into instruction and works to eliminate the digital learning divide in Maine through programs such as the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI).
In her nearly 20 years in education Beth has been a school administrator as well as taught at the middle and high school levels where she served in a leadership capacity around standards, curriculum and assessment, student-centered teaching and teacher leadership.
In addition to her day job at the Maine Department of Education, Beth is a MSAD 49 school board member from Fairfield.
Beth holds a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in teacher leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.In 2002, Maine had the first statewide 1:1 technology initiative, MLTI, which has now been expanded to provide a technology integration coach in each school, a state infrastructure specialist to work with districts to update infrastructure for 2021 learning needs, as well as create local, regional, and statewide professional learning communities while still providing 1:1 laptops for all students.
Participants will learn about the history that created this innovative initiative and the program design that has allowed it to remain- Participants will learn our process for re-imagining the program including advisory board selection and process.
- Participants will learn about how this 1:1 technology initiative has been sustained for 20 years.
- Participants will learn how we have re-imagined the 1:1 program to be necessary and relevant in 2021.
- Participants be able to replicate MLTI's timeline and schedule for design and implementation of a statewide 1:1 learning technology initiative.

He previously served as the director of technology and information, information technology security officer/disaster recovery, technology plan developer and E-Rate coordinator at the Hot Springs School District. Benton has a Bachelor of Science in Education (Vocational Business Education), a Master of Science in Education (P-12 Building Level Leadership) and an Education Specialist in District Level Leadership from Henderson State University. He is pursuing a Doctor of Education in Educational Technology from Boise State University in Idaho.Arkansas’ P-12 Cyber Threat Response Team represents a collaborative effort among Arkansas Cooperative Technology Coordinators, Arkansas Team Digital, the Arkansas Division of Information Systems, and other stakeholders. During his 23 years in education he has had a wide range of roles, from teacher to Virtualization Coordinator to Director of Innovation, he’s always had one common belief – the kids need to drive their own learning. He realizes the challenges in our current educational institutions and meets them head on. As Director of Innovation and Digital Learning at Eanes ISD, he has helped spearhead the launch the LEAP program (Learning & Engaging through Access and Personalization), which put one-to-one iPads in the hands of all K-12 students in his 8000-student district. His unique blend of educational background, technical expertise, and humor make him a successful driving force for this change.
Carl is the author of a 6-part book series titled Mobile Learning Mindset. These books focus on a different stake-holder and the role they play in a successful mobile learning initiative. He also just recently launched his self-paced online course called “The Remote Learning Coach”.
Aside from his work as an author and district leader, Carl also works as a keynote speaker and consultant through his company HookerTech, LLC as well as an advisor with multiple ed tech start-up companies. He is a national faculty member for Future Ready Schools and has been named Tech & Learning Magazine’s Leader of the Year as well as being a member of the Apple Distinguished Educator class of 2013. Hybrid/virtual teaching and learning has definitely been a challenge, however, there are some positives that we can gain from this experience. Since Adam got his first laptop in college, he has been hooked on the fantastic things that technology can add. Early in his teaching career, Adam began having students create videos and podcasts to explain advanced science concepts. Once Adam saw the impact that technology had on learning in his classroom, he began to share his activities and strategies with his peers. This lead to Dr. Phyall working as a Building Instructional Technology Leader, later as a Technology Facilitator, and now serving as a Director of Technology & Media Services.
Throughout his professional career, Dr.Phyall worked extensively with Title I and Urban schools to improve technology integration with economically disadvantaged students. He has planned and developed Mobile Learning plans for school districts in Georgia and Missouri that have led to 1:1 device initiatives. His focus is the design and implementation of the World of Work initiative, a research-based and integrated model of career development for every child in every grade across the 28 schools, serving 15,000 students district wide to prepare every child for the world of work. Prior to his current role he was the director of the world of work initiative at the Jacob’s Institute for Entrepreneurship in Education at the University of San Diego, where he worked with researchers to design the theory of change and theory of action for the world of work initiative. This work reflects the initiatives he led at Qualcomm where he worked in human resources, staffing and government affairs. As senior director of government affairs, he led the development of the Thinkabit_Lab®, a corporate makerspace providing thousands of students and teachers exposure to technology and the world of work. Prior to this role he led the global contingent workforce and immigration practice responsible for hiring more than 20,000 workers. He also co-founded a career development practice providing one on one and group coaching to increase employee engagement and performance.
COVID has amplified the need for new models of career development to overcome the factors that lead to unemployment. The Cajon Valley district is integrating a systemic model, led by teachers, that integrates career development in classrooms. The model leverages vocational psychology and incorporates a whole school approach that includes a two-generational model including parents. Participants will learn how a model for career development and whole child engagement can be delivered in the classroom by teachers and counselors.- How the Cajon Valley Union School district built support for an integrated and systemic district wide career development and framework.
- Methods for how teachers are integrating career development in schools.
- The connection between research (vocational interests) and the Cajon Valley model for integrating career development.
- The role of the RIASEC vocational psychology in creating a common language of career, ecosystem wide across the district.

Las VegasListed as one of EdTech Magazine’s K-12 IT influencers for 2020, Greg is currently the Coordinator of Instructional Technology for the Hamilton County Schools in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In this position, Greg works with schools that are 1:1 assisting them in integrating the technology into their curriculum. Prior to this position, Greg was the principal at Barger Academy of Fine Arts where he served for ten years infusing technology with the arts program. He also serves as a Professional Learning Specialist for the Northwest Council for Computer Education (NCCE) where he trains districts on technology tools and leadership from around the country. He has been a presenter at Google Summits, state, and national technology conferences, as well as at EdCamp encore events. He is one of the co-founders of EdCampGigCity, a co-moderator for #EdTechChat and #TnEdChat.
In addition, Greg is an adjunct professor, keynote speaker, MIE Master Trainer and a MIE Expert.Using teachers' standards and lesson plans as guidelines to create technology-infused lessons, we will discuss how an early adopter introduces, models, and assists in creating space for technology in the classroom.
